The picturesque market town of Alnwick is the historic county town of Northumberland and has been the family seat of Percy family, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland for 700 years.
The Market Place in the town centre hosts weekly markets as well as events including an International Music Festival and the Alnwick Food Festival. Ths year these events will also include The Hotspur Festival, a community celebration of the 700 year anniversary of the Percys buying Alnwick Castle.
The town has many attractions including Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Britain, the Baliffgate Museum with displays on Alnwick's history and the House of Hardy Fishing Museum and Country Store.
There are many quality shops, a sports and leisure centre and the Alnwick Playhouse stages performances and films throughout the year.
Adjacent to Alnwick Castle is the Alnwick Garden. Although developed in an area of the Castle Grounds, the Garden is a separate attraction, but it is possible to purchase a ticket which allows discounted entry to both over a two day period These, plus ordinary entry tickets are available from the Castle admissions office on Castle Square or online from the Alnwick Garden web site.
