Medieval Master Falconer and his Birds of Prey

CF021454

On 17th and 18th August, join Raphael Falconry, the country's most unusual and creative falconers for a unique medieval show where flying displays are interwoven with folklore and natural history. You'll experience a theatrical performance with Raphael's talented team of experienced hawks, owls and falcons as the stars of the show, as the fabulously-costumed falconers weave a flowing story around the natural flights of the birds.

See the birds at rest in the Hawk Mews, a carefully crafted period tent lavishly decorated with handcrafted perches, fabrics and furniture, creating an authentic medieval experience.

Each bird is flown in individual style and presents its own story. Squeal in delight at the lightening stoop of the peregrine falcon as he streaks overhead. Then there's the graceful flight of the Lanner, the bewitching charm of the owls, the cheeky darting chase of the kestrel and the powerful military-style hunting hawk. Raphael's falcons never cease to impress in competitive carousel.

With a captivity commentary all ages will enjoy, you'll learn all about the history of falconry and discover how hunting with birds contributed to the national heritage.

Free after paying admission. Check the blackboard on arrival for location. If appropriate, dress for outdoor or messy play.
