Transport yourself back to an age when chivalry was the order of the day and knights fought valiantly to defend their honour. 
 
These events are free with admission to the castle, so why not set a date in your diary and come witness these chivalrous spectacles from days gone by.

Fighting Knights
 
Saturday 4th to Tuesday 7th
 
Listen to the clashing of steel as the brave knights from Dressed to Kill return to Alnwick Castle. Cheer on Sir Lewis or Sir Jay as these two highly trained knights battle each in single combat with a range of weapons produced from their own armoury.
 
Demonstrations will take place on Barneyside area of Alnwick Castle.

The War Horse
 
Saturday 4th to Tuesday 7th
 
Witness two exquisite displays by El Caballo de Espana on beautiful Spanish horses, with live commentary from international dressage trainer Peter Maddison-Greenwell.
 
  1. From Tradition to Today - Join Peter as he demonstrates the progression of horse training from the tradition of preparing the horse for battle in the medieval period through to the what we see today in modern dressage.
  2. Training of the Horse - Demonstrating in more detail the preparation required to train a horse.
 
Demonstrations will take place on Barneyside area of Alnwick Castle.

Longbow Demonstrations
 
Saturday 4th to Tuesday 7th
 
Observe incredible feats of skill during our longbow demonstrations, often the weapon that determined the outcome of many medieval England's battles.

Demonstrations will take place in the Archery Arena on the the Inner Bailey of Alnwick Castle.

Knight School, Princess School & Barber Surgeon
 
Monday 6th to Friday 10th
 
Try on authentic reproduction armour from the 11th to the 15th Century with the expert Master of Arms from Mark Vance Historical Entertainments.
Meet a Medieval Princess and hear what life for her was really like. Learn about princess etiquette and practice some it yourself.
Hear from the Barber Surgeon as he regales you with blood-curdling tales of injury, ailment and terrifying treatments.

 
These activities will take place on the Inner Bailey of Alnwick Castle.

Maille Making Demonstrations

Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August

Come and witness the fine art of maille making with Master Maille maker Nick Checksfield. Learn more about this amazing craft and the level of detail (and patience) required to produce a protective coat of armour, the perfect skill to help prepare yourself for any upcoming battle!

Demonstrations will take place in Artisans Courtyard.
