Romeo & Juliet - Saturday 4th July - Hulne Abbey
Prepare for a carnival of passion and imagination, as The Fools present the world's best-known love story.

This romantic epic will be getting the full Three Inch Fools treatment: live music-making, deft physically and vibrant story-telling. Expect fast-paced drama, plenty of musical instruments and many a quick costume change along the way!


Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, we are frequently reviewing this event. A decision to sell tickets for this performance for the original date of 4th of July will be made in May. The decision will be based on UK Government advice and the safety and well-being of all. We apologise for any incovenience caused and thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Concession: 60 years of age or over. Students in full time education (student I.D. will be required). 18 years of age or under.

Event Information

  • Please read the additional information for the evening that will be made available by clicking here on June 26th.
  • Gates will open at 6pm, with the performance starting at 7pm.
  • This is an outside performance so please come prepared. You may want to check the weather forecast before setting off.
  • You are welcome to bring low-backed chairs, cushions and rugs to sit on. No seating will be provided.
  • Coats and warm clothing is recommended as it can become cold as the sun begins to set. Please do not bring umbrellas as they can block the view for others.
  • Picnics are welcome however we have a strict no glass policy and we ask that you do not bring alcohol onto the premises. Catering arrangement will be announced closer to the events.
  • Ther performance will continue in all but the most extreme weather conditions (such as heavy rain, strong winds or thunderstorms). We want people to enjoy the outdoors and the stunning backdrop we provide, therefore every effort will be made to keep the performance on.
  • If the weather conditions deteriorate during the performance to a point of causing a risk to audience and/or performers safety, the venue and performance company may decide to cancel the remainder of the performance.
  • Please note that bag searches may take place for the benefit and security of visitors and staff. Your kind co-operation is much appreciated.

Terms & Conditions
  1. Once purchased, please check the details of your ticket(s) carefully.
  2. You must produce a valid ticket for this event to be permitted entry to the venue (printed or on a mobile device)
  3. Audio, video or photographic recordings are not permitted at any time during the performance.
  4. You should always check that the event is going ahead at the time and date your purchased the ticket for. The decision to change or cancel the event is the responsibility of Alnwick Castle. If we make a significant change to the show time, Alnwick Castle will try to inform you via email. In urgent cases it may be by phone.
  5. Once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded other than for the circumstances set out below:
    1. If we fail to fulfil an order as a result of any negligence, or similar act or omission of our own or in breach of contract the customer will be entitled to a full refund of the ticket.
    2. If the event is cancelled, postponed or changes are made to the event.
  6. We will not refund any travel costs associated with a cancellations.
  7. No refunds will be given for the following:
    1. If your ticket is lost or stolen.
    2. If you decide to leave the performance once it has started.
    3. If you fail to comply with these terms and conditions.
  8. If these terms are not complied with, we reserve the right to refuse entry or eject you from the venue.
  9. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Modifications shall be effective immediately.

Romeo & Juliet at Hulne Abbey

Entrance to Hulne Park will be via the B6346. The nearest Post Code to Hulne Abbey is NE66 2LJ.
Parking for this event will be in a neighbouring field to Hulne Abbey. Disabled Parking will be available.
Do not enter Hulne Park via Ratten Row as this road does not provide access to the Abbey.

The Merry Wives of Windsor at Alnwick Castle

Entrance to the castle for this performance will be through the Iron Railings on Castle Square (Post Code NE66 1NG).
If parking for this event, please park on the nearby streets (Bailiffgate Road, The Peth, Rattern Row, Walkergate, or the public car parks on Greenwell Road). Do not park in the main castle car park on Denwick Land as there will be no access to the castle from this car park.

Covid-19 Update

We are constantly reviewing the situation regarding Covid-19.
If the advice given by the UK Government to stay at home remains and shows no signs of being lifted by the 22nd of May 2020, performances will be posponed to later in the year.

About The Three Inch Fools

The Three Inch Fools are a five-strong troupe of actors with all manner of musical instruments, travelling with set, props, costumes and camping gear. This year they return for two special performances.
The Three Inch Fools perform Shakespeare in almost any kind of setting. To date they have performed in castles, gardens, churches, village greens, an old fire station and a garlic farm! To them all the world's a stage. This summer will be their fourth year on the road, and it is set to be their biggest adventure yet, with more than 70 performances and over three-months of travel.
