Discover more of Alnwick Castle's history with our after-hour Twilight Tours.

Join one of our guides as they lead you on a tour to visit areas of Alnwick Castle not seen by our day time visitors. During the tour you'll hear about Harry Hotspur, William Lisle, William Worme and other myths from North Northumberland. Please be aware this is the same tour as delivered in 2020.

Tickets for the Twilight Tours are available to purchase at the bottom of this page. You are advised to book early as these tours are expected to be over-subscribed and numbers are limited to 6 per tour.

Tour Information
  • Tickets for this tour must be purchased online in advance, 30 minutes before the tour begins. No tickets will be available at Alnwick Castle on the night.
  • Entry to the castle will be via the Iron Railings on Castle Square (NE66 1NG). All tours start at the Iron Railings and you must be at the meeting point for the time shown on your ticket.
  • Individuals that miss their tour time will not be permitted entry and no refund will be given.
  • If parking for this event, please park on the nearby streets (Bailiffgate Road, The Peth, Rattern Row, Walkergate, or the public car parks on Greenwell Road). We recommend you do not park in the main castle car park on Denwick Lane as there will be no access to the castle from this car park.
  • The tour will go ahead in all but the most extreme weather conditions. You may want to check the weather forecast before setting off.
  • This is a walking tour taking place outside and inside parts of the castle.
  • Participants will be expected to wear a face covering for the indoor sections of the tour. We also ask that you bring your own torch.
  • Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the castle and its grounds the tour will be inaccessible to wheelchairs, motorised scooters and those with mobility issues. For more information on this please contact Alnwick Castle via the 'contact us' part of the website.
  • There will be no access to our toilets on-site.
  • Please note this tour is not suitable for those who are pregnant, who suffer from claustrophobia, or of a nervous disposition.

The health and safety of our visitors and staff is always our priority. To ensure everyone's safety we have introduced a number of additional measures.
  1. All visitors will be expected to wear a face covering during the indoor sections of the tour. We recognise there are exceptions to this requirement.
  2. We will ask all visitors to sanitise their hands before and after their tour.
  3. Surfaces such as hand rails will be wiped down at the start and end of an evening of tours.
  4. If you are displaying symptoms linked to COVID-19 we ask that you do not attend the tour.
