Alnwick Castle is one of the most iconic castles in Britain and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the North East of England. Whether people visit to learn more about our history, explore our film connections or simply have fun, we want them to have the best day possible.

To make this happen, we recruit individuals who share our enthusiasm for Alnwick Castle and can in turn share it with our visitors. Alnwick Castle's seasonal staff are one big team; every member of staff is valued and plays an important part in ensuring visitors have the great experience they expect, and feel safe while doing so.


The friendly welcome, the fascinating history, the amazing food, the interactive learning, the performances and the clean facilities. They are all parts of a great visitor experience, and we are looking for people who can help us achieve it.

If you enjoy learning about history and art, and engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds, a seasonal role as a State Room and Tour Guide is well suited for you.

Based in the State Rooms, or delivering full guided tours in the Castle grounds, you will contribute to every visitor's enjoyment of Alnwick Castle and bring its history and collections to life. Guides in 2021 will help visitors stay safe in the State Rooms by monitoring capacity and ensuring social distancing is maintained.

Enthusiasm for working with members of the public, the ability to retain knowledge, and the skills to communicate information in a clear, friendly and accessible way are essential.

FILM TOUR GUIDES


Alnwick Castle's filming location tours are one of our most popular activities. If you enjoy watching, learning and talking about film and TV, and sharing your enthusiasm with people of all ages and backgrounds, a role as a Film Tour Guide is well suited for you.

Working alongside the wider Guides team, you will conduct multiple tours each day, so a strong and confident voice is required. You will also ensure visitors stay safe while taking a tour and that social distancing is maintained.

The ability to retain knowledge about the Castle's film history, particularly Harry Potter, and communicate it in a clear, friendly and accessible way, is essential.

HOUSE ADMISSION ATTENDANTS


Working closely with the Guides team, Alnwick Castle's House Admission Attendants will ensure visitors enter and exit the State Rooms safely, and that capacities and social distancing measures in place for 2021 are maintained at all times.

This small stewarding team will work at the entry point to the State Rooms, ensuring every visitor has a valid timeslot ticket for entry. You will direct and manage any queues outside the State Rooms entrance, and deliver safety briefings. At the exit, you will ensure visitors return to the Castle grounds safely. This role is primarily outdoors.

Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors, and delivering correct information about the Castle and the safety measures in place for 2021, you must be flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented. A confident, cheerful, outgoing personality is essential.

Historical InterpreterS & PerformerS

VISITOR SERVICES ASSISTANTS
AND ADMISSIONS TILL OPERATORS


If you are flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented, a role in the Visitor Services and Admissions team may be for you.

Duties include serving customers using EPOS till systems, providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors, delivering correct information on the Castle's various opening times, prices, activities and facilities, and ticket checking at Castle entry points. This role is primarily outdoors.

Staff in 2021 will also help visitors stay safe during their time at Alnwick Castle by monitoring capacity and ensuring social distancing is maintained. Anyone with excellent customer service and/or till operating skills would be well-suited for this role.

Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with exemplary customer service skills to be part of a dynamic and diverse team offering an efficient and enjoyable dining experience across a range of food and catering outlets.

Alnwick Castle's Food and Beverage Assistants will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in order to work in all areas of our catering across the Alnwick Castle site, serving food and drinks to visitors, and adhering to all safety and distancing guidelines in place for 2021.

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal Chefs. Working under the guidance of our senior Chef, you will deliver a wide range of food products for various catering outlets across the Castle site. You will be part of a close-knit team, dedicated to preparing a high standard of delicious food.

A commitment to maintaining this high standard of service and production within the kitchen, and a positive attitude to work, is essential. You must be eager to learn and develop your current skills.

KITCHEN porterS


Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with exemplary customer service skills to be part of a dynamic and diverse team across a range of food outlets. Kitchen Porters will have additional duties supporting the Chefs in our busy kitchen areas.

You will be required to assist the Chefs in keeping all food preparation areas exceptionally clean and organised, and be responsible for the cleaning and storage of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. You will also assist in delivering food to the various outlets around the Castle site. A positive attitude towards work is essential, as is the ability to motivate others.

RETAIL ASSISTANTS


Alnwick Castle is recruiting for Retail Assistants to work at the Castle's two on-site gift shops, selling a wide variety of popular and high-end items to visitors from all over the world.

Duties include serving customers, stock control and merchandising, and assistance with deliveries (some heavy lifting may be required).

Desirable qualities include previous experience in a customer-facing role, cash-handling skills, working as part of a team, and experience of an EPOS system or an equivalent.

CLEANING OPERATIVES


Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal Cleaning Operatives. Duties will include cleaning across the Castle site and in several offices, emptying bins, and ensuring the Castle grounds are kept litter-free at all times.

You must be flexible and well-presented, and will be required to work split shifts - mornings, afternoons, and the occasional evening. Weekend working is essential. A successful candidate will demonstrate recent experience as a Cleaning Operative, and some knowledge of various cleaning equipment. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for its seasonal Administrative Assistant position. You must be flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented. Duties include answering all general visitor enquiries via email, telephone and our online Live Chat, using EPOS till systems, providing a warm, friendly response to all visitors, delivering correct information on all aspects of the Castle's opening, and communicating regularly with Alnwick Castle management about visitor feedback.

This role is primarily office-based, and may include additional duties on behalf of the Admissions, Sales and Marketing departments. Anyone with excellent customer service and/or IT skills would be suited to this role.

Front of House Team - Fusiliers Museum of Northumberland (seasonal)

The Fusiliers Museum of Northumberland are looking to recruit Front of House staff to work between March and October 2021.  The museum is located within the grounds of Alnwick Castle. You will make an important contribution to the visitor experience, helping visitors to understand and enjoy the fascinating history of the Regiment and its links with the Percy family. 
 
We are looking for smart, enthusiastic individuals who can provide a warm welcome and are willing to offer help and advice to our visitors.  You will manage visitor entry to the Museum and serve customers in our Gift Shop. Training will be provided.
 
This role requires you to work one or two days per week on a rota basis.  Candidates should be flexible in their working patterns as they may be asked to provide cover at short notice when required.

Senior Building Surveyor - Northumberland Estates

An excellent opportunity has arisen within Northumberland Estates for an experienced, enthusiastic and professionally qualified Senior Building Surveyor to be responsible for overseeing the project management of major building projects for the Northern Estates.

You must have a degree in Building Surveying (or other relevant property/construction degree), be chartered, and have at least five years' practical experience. A knowledge of working with historic buildings is advantageous.

You will also be committed to delivering a quality service and have the ambition to succeed. The position is permanent and full-time.
