Most jobs at Alnwick Castle involve dealing with visitors, or potential visitors, and we are dedicated to the highest standards of customer service. We are all ambassadors for the castle. Attitude and aptitude can be more important than lots of experience, and in some roles we can offer real flexibility - there are opportunities for people with all kinds of needs.

State Room and Tour Guides

If you enjoy learning and talking about history or art, and would like the opportunity to engage with people of all ages from all over the world, a seasonal role as a State Room and Tour Guide at Alnwick Castle is well-suited for you. Stewarding one of the Castle’s magnificent State Rooms and Life Below Stairs areas, and conducting a variety of tours for visitors, you will contribute to every visitor’s enjoyment of Alnwick Castle, and bring its history and collections to life. An enthusiasm for working with customers, the ability to retain knowledge about the Castle, and to communicate it in a clear, friendly and accessible way, is essential.

 

The role offers opportunities to work full shifts during opening hours, or shorter shifts that cover our busy lunchtime period. If you feel you are suited to this lunchtime relief role, please state on your application.

Language Speaking Guides

Alnwick Castle welcomes visitors from all over the world, from China to South America as well as throughout Europe. We are committed to giving visitors of all nationalities a memorable and enjoyable experience, and as a language speaking State Room and Tour Guide, you will have an important role in making this possible.

Visitor Services Assistants and Admissions Till Operators

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal staff for its Visitor Services and Admissions department. You must be flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented. Duties include serving customers using EPOS till systems, providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors, delivering correct information on the Castle’s various opening times, prices, activities, and facilities, and ticket checking at the entry points to the Castle.

 

This role is primarily outdoors, but there may be an opportunity to participate in other departments. Anyone with excellent customer service and/or till operating skills would be suited to this role.

Historical Interpreters and Performers

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for Historical Interpreters and Performers. You will bring the richness of the Castle’s history to life, with duties including the delivery of tours, demonstrations, craft workshops and performances to a wide range of visitors, enhancing the experience for every visitor.

 

In one of the most interactive roles at Alnwick Castle, you will be part of a team full of artistic flair, strong vocal ability, performance skills and plenty of energy. An interest in history would also be suited to this role. Enthusiasm, flexibility and teamwork are essential, and full training will be given.

Cleaning Operatives

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal cleaning operatives. Duties will include cleaning across the Castle site and in several offices, emptying bins, and ensuring the Castle grounds are kept litter-free at all times.

 

You must be flexible and well-presented, and in addition to some full days during peak season, you will be required to work split shifts: mornings, afternoons, and the occasional evening. Weekend working is essential. A successful candidate will demonstrate recent experience as a cleaning operative, and some knowledge of various cleaning equipment. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Retail Assistants and Supervisors

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal retail assistants to work at the Castle’s two on-site gift shops, selling a wide variety of popular and high-end items to visitors from all over the world. Duties include serving customers, stock control and merchandising products, and assistance with deliveries (some heavy lifting may be required).

 

Desirable experience includes previous experience in a customer-facing role, cash-handling skills, working as part of a team, and experience of an EPOS system or an equivalent. Training will be provided.

 

In addition, Retail Supervisor roles reporting directly to the Retail Manager are also available, with additional duties and responsibilities as detailed in the job description below.

Food and Beverage Assistants

Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with exemplary customer service skills to be part of a dynamic and diverse team offering an efficient and enjoyable dining experience across a range of food outlets. Alnwick Castle’s Food and Beverage Assistants will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in order to work in all areas of our café and across the Alnwick Castle site, serving food and drinks to visitors.

 

Food and Beverage Assistants may also be required to assist with functions offering banqueting service.
