Sustainable Travel
We encourage eco-friendly travel to the Castle. Alnwick is well served by public transport, and we promote walking, cycling, and car-sharing options to reduce emissions.
Solar Car Ports
We’re planning to introduce new solar car ports in our car parks, with completion planned for 2026. These structures will not only offer covered parking for visitors but also generate clean, renewable energy for use across the Castle site. Once operational, they will provide up to 40% of our annual electricity needs—marking a major step toward reducing our carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
Waste & Recycling
We’re committed to reducing waste through extensive recycling initiatives, responsible disposal, and cutting down on single-use plastics.
Health & Wellbeing
Our historic grounds and green spaces offer a peaceful setting for outdoor activity, reflection, and recreation—contributing to better physical and mental health for all our visitors.

Supporting Local Businesses
We work closely with local suppliers, artisans, and food producers to showcase the best of Northumberland. From our gift shops to our food outlets, we prioritise sourcing locally to strengthen the local economy and reduce environmental impact.
