Where was Dungeons & Dragons filmed?
When cameras arrived at Alnwick Castle in 2021, the Castle was transformed into Neverwinter, the legendary city from the Dungeons & Dragons universe. With its ancient walls, dramatic towers and atmospheric grounds, Alnwick Castle provided the perfect setting for this fantasy adventure starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant.

Barneyside
Barneyside was transformed into the mythical city of Neverwinter for Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves. The Castle provided the perfect backdrop for the film’s fantastical world, with the area dressed with medieval-style details, banners, tents, horses and extras to create the bustling streets of Neverwinter.

Outer Bailey
Visitors may recognise the Outer Bailey from Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, where it was transformed into part of the fantastical city of Neverwinter with the help of detailed production dressing.

Castle Walls
The Castle walls were also transformed with sections dressed to create the fantastical world of Neverwinter. Medieval-style details, banners and other set dressing were added to Alnwick Castle’s historic stonework, blending the real Castle with the film’s fictional setting.

Lion Arch
Lion Arch takes centre stage in Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, as the film’s heroes arrive at Neverwinter. The iconic gateway was used to create a dramatic entrance into the fantasy city, with Chris Pine’s character, Edgin, seen entering through the arch.
Look closely and you may recognise more of Alnwick Castle than you expect. The same medieval buildings and courtyards that became Neverwinter in Dungeons & Dragons were transformed into Castle Folgan for Transformers: The Last Knight. It is one of the joys of visiting a filming location – seeing familiar places in a completely different light.
Where was Transformers Filmed?
Transformers: The Last Knight was filmed at Alnwick Castle in September 2016, with the castle standing in for the fictional Castle Folgan. The production also used locations across the UK, and featured several areas of the castle including the Inner Bailey, Library and Lion Bridge. The film was released in 2017.

Alnwick Castle's Library was transformed into Sir Edmund Burton's private library at Castle Folgan. It is here that Sir Anthony Hopkins' character welcomes Cade Yeager and Viviane Wembly before revealing the extraordinary connection between the Transformers, Merlin and the legend of King Arthur.

Alnwick Castle's Inner Bailey became part of Castle Folgan, the ancestral home of Sir Edmund Burton. Its historic courtyard appears during the characters' arrival at the Castle.

Lion Arch and Barneyside
The Lion Arch and Barneyside provided the setting for one of the film's lighter moments. Here, the ageing Autobot Bulldog, disguised as a First World War Mark IV tank, mistakenly fires at Cade Yeager and his companions before Sir Edmund Burton intervenes, revealing the eccentric castle guardian has a touch of "robot dementia".
