The Bailiffgate Story
Bailiffgate has a fascinating history. Once the Duke of Northumberland's Commissioner's House, it became a girls' school in 1903, teaching sewing, knitting and household skills.
Today, it has been beautifully transformed into a luxury hotel where heritage meets modern comfort. Our Commissioner's Bar honours the building's earliest residents, while Mrs Bowmaker's private dining room is named after the school's formidable first headmistress.
