How to get to Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle sits in the heart of Alnwick. Just off the A1, it is easily accessible by car, train and bus. 

Getting to Alnwick Castle by bus

Buses to Alnwick run regularly from Newcastle, as well as from several other towns and villages. There are multiple bus stops near the castle, and the central bus station in Alnwick is just a 7-minute walk away.

From Haymarket in Newcastle city centre, you can catch the following buses: X15, X18, and X20.

Getting to Alnwick Castle by car

Less than a mile off the A1, Alnwick Castle is also easily accessible via car. The main castle car park can be found just off of Denwick Lane (B1340), and has a parking charge of £3.50 per vehicle for the day. Our main car park opens from 9am, and the postcode is NE66 IYU.

Disabled Parking

Getting to Alnwick Castle by train 

If you’re travelling from Edinburgh or London, you can take the East Coast mainline to Alnmouth station which is 4 miles from Alnwick. From there, you can either get a taxi to Alnwick Castle, or catch the X18 or X20 bus.

If you’re travelling to us by foot, please follow the NE66 ING postcode which will lead you directly to the admission office. Alternatively, if you follow the postcode of NE66 IHB, you’ll be taken to the visitors entrance adjacent to The Alnwick Garden.
