Visitor notice

Please note that various areas of Alnwick Castle will be closed or have limited access on 28th July – 8th August (inclusive), due to the filming of a major ITV period drama.

Please check the 'What’s On' page for details about which events will be taking place on these days, as some are affected by the filming and have been cancelled or rescheduled. Affected events include Lost Cellars, Broomstick Training, tours, and seasonal events.

See below for details of access to the State Rooms on those dates; the grounds are open as usual unless otherwise stated (certain areas of the grounds may need to be closed off at short notice on the day):

  • 28th July – Limited State Rooms opening (times TBC)
  • 29th July – Entry only through Alnwick Castle admissions (see ‘Find Us’ page for details), State Rooms closed all day, limited access in grounds
  • 30th July – State Rooms closed all day
  • 31st July – State Rooms closed all day
  • 1st August – State Rooms open 12.00 noon - 5.00pm
  • 2nd August – State Rooms open 10.00am-5.00pm, grounds open 10.00am-7.00pm
  • 3rd August – State Rooms open 10.00am-5.00pm, grounds open 10.00am-7.00pm
  • 4th August – Entry only through Alnwick Castle admissions (see ‘Find Us’ page for details), State Rooms closed all day, limited access in grounds
  • 5th August – State Rooms closed all day
  • 6th August – State Rooms closed all day
  • 7th August – Entry only through Alnwick Castle admissions (see ‘Find Us’ page for details), State Rooms closed all day, limited access in grounds
  • 8th August – Limited State Rooms opening (times TBC)

Please note that some of the State Rooms may be dressed for filming while open to the public on those days.

Normal admission charges apply, but you can validate your ticket for 12 months (at no extra cost) to revisit as many times as you like.

From touring the stunning art and furniture collections in the State Rooms, to broomstick training sessions (for young and old muggles alike!), Potter-inspired magic shows, and medieval crafts in Knight's Quest - there is something for the whole family!

Accessibility

Wheelchair access is unfortunately limited in places due to the historic nature of the site, please ask a member of staff for advice. Free wheelchair and mobility scooter hire is available from Admissions. Dogs (with the exception of assistance dogs) are not permitted in the castle and grounds.
