Broomstick Training is back!

We are thrilled to announce that we have brought back our world-famous Broomstick Training!

We have had to make a few changes to the broomstick lesson plan this year to ensure that we can deliver the lessons with your safety and that of our staff as the highest priority.

Please take a moment to read through the information below which will tell you all you need to know about learning to fly at Alnwick Castle in 2020.

Lessons are available daily, weather permitting

Lessons will start at 10:30am with the last lesson of the day starting at 3:30pm.

Lessons are £12 per person, with tickets being prioritised for visitors aged 6 to 16 years.

Alnwick Castle reserves the right to alter any part of its programme. Please call in advance to check timings on the day.

Who can take part?

In order to maintain social distancing during the lesson, we are limiting the class size for each session to a maximum of 20 pupils.

Whilst we believe you're never too old to learn to fly, Broomstick Training tickets are prioritised for visitors aged 6 to 16 years. If you are above this age group and would like to take part, please speak to the staff member selling the tickets and they will be able to advise whether you can be accommodated.

How to book

Broomstick lessons are not included with your grounds admission ticket.  In order to take part, you will need to purchase a Broomstick Lesson ticket from our activity ticket hall, located behind the gift shop.  For directions to the ticket hall, please refer to our visitor map where the hall is marked with a white ticket, or speak to a member of our staff.  Please wear a face covering at all times inside the ticket hall.

Lessons are available daily, weather permitting.

Lessons will start at 10:30am with the last lesson of the day starting at 3:30pm.

Tickets are £12 per person for a lesson and can be purchased by credit or debit card only.  Please note that we are operating as a cash-free site for safety reasons and cannot accept cash payments.
Please have your admission booking confirmation to hand as you will be asked for your booking reference number when purchasing a Broomstick Lesson ticket for compliance with the NHS test and trace scheme.

Due to the new timeslot entry system to the Castle, and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in a lesson, tickets will be released throughout the day.

You will be provided with a timeslot ticket for your lesson, please keep this safe as you will need to show this to the Professor at the start of your lesson.

What to expect from your Broomstick Lesson

The biggest thing you can expect, is to have lots of fun! Our expert wizarding Professors enjoy a good giggle and we find that you learn better when you are enjoying yourself too, so feel free to laugh along with them (or at them!)
Lessons will take place in the outdoor classroom set up on the Inner Bailey.  Please only arrive for your lesson at the time stated on your tickets.  Only those with a valid ticket will be able to enter the outdoor classroom.  If you are spectating a lesson, we ask that you keep a distance of 2 metres from the classroom barrier while a class is in session.

The Professor leading the lesson will ask each participant to sanitise their hands at the station provided, before being guided to their broomstick for the lesson.  For your safety and that of our staff, all broomsticks will be sanitised after each lesson and placed on the floor ready to be picked up by each pupil.

Broomsticks will be placed 2 metres apart at the start of the lesson, and we ask that all pupils remain 2 metres apart at all times.  Not doing so may result in the Professor having to ask you to leave the class for the safety of the other pupils.

Safety first

Whilst our Professors may need to raise their voice in order to be heard clearly, they will not do this close to you or any other pupil in the lesson.  You are welcome to wear a face covering if you wish, though this is not compulsory.

For safety reasons, lessons can only take place if the take off zone is dry.  Therefore lessons may be cancelled if it is raining or rain is expected.

If we have to cancel a lesson due to rain, a full refund will be given if you take your lesson ticket back to the ticket hall.
