As well as special events and performances, there are many exciting things to do at Alnwick Castle every day.

'Alnwick On Location' film tour



Best known for its starring role as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two Harry Potter films, Alnwick Castle has made many appearances in film and television, featuring in Downton Abbey, Blackadder, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and many more.

On the 'Alnwick On Location' film tour, discover the locations where scenes were shot and hear behind-the-scenes anecdotes with an entertaining costumed guide.


This tour is free with your entry ticket and lasts 30 - 45 minutes. Please check times and meeting point on arrival. Please note this tour takes place outdoors and may be weather-permitting.
 

Historical Grounds tour


Join one of our knowledgeable tour guides in the grounds of Alnwick Castle to learn about the castle's long and varied history.


From its origins as a border fortress to its restorations in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Historical Grounds tour takes visitors past stunning views of Alnwick Castle's towers and gatehouses and explores the many obstacles attackers would face at the imposing Barbican entrance. Hear stories of the fascinating families who have lived at the castle over many centuries, and the buildings, battlements and baileys where history was made.

State Room tour



Alnwick Castle's State Rooms contain lavish Victorian interiors in the style of the Italian Renaissance, and are filled with one of the country's finest private collections of fine and decorative arts.

Join one of our tour guides on a guided tour of the rooms, their collections, and learn how they link to the stories of Alnwick Castle and the Percy family.


This tour is free with your entry ticket and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Please check times and meeting point on arrival. The State Room tour is not available during the months of July and August.

Archery




Try your hand at one of the most important skills a medieval army could have in our archery arena.

Our trained instructors will teach you everything from stance to aim as you knock, draw and loose your arrows to hit the bullseye!


Archery is suitable for visitors aged 9 or over, and costs £3.50 for 8 arrows. Visitors aged 17 or over may like to try a longbow, which costs £3.50 for 5 arrows. Please check times on arrival. Please note archery takes place outdoors and may be weather-permitting.
