Courtyard Café Open daily during castle open season, 10.00am-4.00pm

Our licensed café is situated in the cobbled courtyard behind the Clock Tower, nestled within the castle walls. A warm Northumbrian welcome is offered to all our visitors, with a range of delicious food and drink to give you energy for your adventures.

Our chef prepares fresh food daily, from golden scones to fragrant soup, using locally-sourced produce wherever possible.

You might be tempted by the delicious smells from our new pizza oven, with choices such as margherita, pepperoni, or goats cheese and pesto baked freshly each day, or the daily pasta specials served in miniature casserole dishes.

The café also serves a selection of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, snacks and a mouth-watering selection of cakes, including gluten free options.

Please do let our staff know if you have any dietary requirements and they would be delighted to accommodate you wherever possible.

Stables Fryery Open daily during castle open season, 11.30am-3.00pm

Enjoy fish and chips from our Victorian-style fryery, housed in the castle's old stable block.

As well as sustainably sourced cod and chips, the fryery also serves pie of the day and sausages, as well as smaller fish bites for children or those with a smaller appetite!

Armoury Takeaway Open daily during castle open season, 10.30am-4.00pm

We serve a delicious selection of takeaway options within the medieval Artisans Courtyard. Grab a freshly prepared panini, sandwich or hot drink and take a seat in glorious sunshine.
