Heritage Craft Day

Max Sconyers III is a talented woodworker, specialising in green woodworking and spoon carving. Using a hands-on approach to his work and tuition through the Scandinavian slöjd method, Max channels enriching natural spaces and wildlife into his craft. Max is incredibly grounded in what he does and uses the land and outdoor spaces around him to influence his work and encourages others to connect with nature through making.

Jennifer Tetlow carves stone sculptures with a focus on the natural world, taking inspiration from the flora and fauna around her. Stone carving requires time and patience which is how Jennifer conveys life into her sculptures and how they stand the test of time. The stillness of stone combined with the life and energy of fauna, make for breath taking artistry.

Victoria Conner of the Willow Barn is a skilled willow weaver, creating everything from baskets to intricate sculptures. Developing an appreciation of the natural world early on in life, Victoria carries this into her work, creating elaborately woven sculptures inspired by nature. Victoria continues to explore the creativity of willow weaving and regularly hosts workshops to share her skills and knowledge.

Ian Tait is a master stick dresser, creating beautiful walking sticks and shepherds’ crooks like the ones found on display in the Dining Room created by Norman Tulip. Combining woodworking and the shaping of ram’s horn, Ian creates exquisite one of a kind works of art. 

Company of Artisans join us to demonstrate medieval craftsmanship through tile making and weaving. Kate delves into the art of medieval tile making, showing the process and delving into the stories tiles can tell. Charlie uses his replica medieval loom to explore how textiles and fabrics were made through spinning and weaving.
