Alnwick Castle welcomes a weekend long celebration of the history and music of the Northumbrian Pipes. With an archival exhibit, spotlight talks along with try-the-pipes sessions and dancing, there's a way for everyone to enjoy the Northumbrian Pipes this weekend!

Sounds & Stories

Enjoy opportunities to try the pipes yourself, experience the rhythm of traditional dancing, and witness a special Young Pipers’ session celebrating the next generation of musicians. The weekend culminating in a full Pipers’ Gathering finale.

Within the Castle, discover illuminating Spotlight Talks and a curated archival display exploring the enduring connection between the Northumbrian Pipes and the Dukes of Northumberland.

Saturday 19th September

10am – 10:15am: An opening performance by the Duke's Piper
10:30am – 12:30pm: “Have a Go” session, led by Ednie Wilson in the Guest Hall
12pm: Performance in the State Rooms
1:30m-3:30pm: “Have a Go” session, led by Ednie Wilson in the Guest Hall
2pm: Performance in the Great Kitchen

Sunday 20th September

10am – 10:15am: An opening performance by the Duke's Piper
10:30am – 12:30pm: A session for children who are learning the pipes to come together and perform in the Guest Hall
12pm: Performance in the State Rooms
2pm-4pm: Performance led by the Duke’s Piper and a keyboard, with a full piping session for those who play
